The Old Power Returns Digs Deeper
into the Dark Heart of New England

SOUTHBORO, Mass. – March 20, 2007 - Harvest Shadows Publications announces that The Old Power Returns, the sequel to Morven Westfield’s Darksome Thirst, is scheduled for release in June 2007

Set in the suburbs west of Boston in the ‘80s, when the technology industry was just beginning to reshape the local economy, this fast-paced tale of the occult follows Meg and Alicia, both tech workers, who have to confront a menace far more dangerous than learning COBOL. Can logical-minded Alicia overcome her prejudices enough to outwit a decidedly supernatural danger? Will Meg’s unusual powers be enough to save her friend?

Meanwhile, Frederick the vampire has his own problems. The new yuppie apartment complexes provide fruitful ground for finding fresh victims, but an ill-fated trip to the bowling alley has put him face to face with the one woman who can undo him. If that isn’t enough trouble, his master Wesley is stirring again…

“She takes her time to develop her characters and reminds me of Stephen King…” – D.W. Jones, Blood Moon Rising magazine

Westfield accurately and intriguingly evokes a time when computer data was stored on tape drives and people with occult tastes found each other at the food co-op and through the classifieds, rather than on the Internet. She explores the vampire mythos with a sense of mystery and menace, never sliding over the line into camp or gore.

Her first novel, Darksome Thirst, won widespread praise for its eerie atmosphere and powerful characters. Begun during Westfield’s long-ago stint as a second-shift computer operator, it was published in 2003 by Harvest Shadows. The Old Power Returns is a triumphant return for Westfield and a treat for readers.
